1. Big Banyan Tree & Manchanabale Dam: Off Mysore road and about 30 kms from heart of Bangalore city, Big Banyan tree (Dodda Alada Mara in Kannada) is a gigantic 400 years old banyan tree covering 3 acres of land. Few kms further is the Manchanabele dam, offering scenic views.

  3. Thank you very much for the post. We (my family and my neighbor’s family) decided to go for a short drive and i found this post via google search. We decided to drive to Bilikal Rangaswamy Betta. The drive was awesome particularly after taking the diversion from Kanapura. The tip to take a SUV was particularly very help since the last 8-10 kms road is definitely meant for a regular sedan. I’m an off-road junkie so the last few kms drive was indeed adventures. When we reached the top it was totally covered with fog with almost zero visibility and quite windy conditions which added to our excitement. Barring few villagers, there is no one who stays on the top. Thankfully we were carrying some hot tea/coffee and snacks. The kids had a very good time. There is a Gazebo on the top which most likely is built by the forest dept. The only disappointment was the temple was under construction so we could not enter in. Beware of wild animals particularly elephants since we spotted their dung at many places, so it is recommend to stay inside your car till you reach the top. To summarize, great trip and a must visit again.
