About Badami

Badami is a small town in Karnataka most famous for its Badami Cave Temples. Originally the capital of Badami Chalukyas, these are an incredible example of an ancient type of Indian rock-cut architecture also known as “Badami Chalukya Architecture”.  Today, tourists from all over India flock to see these magnificent structures and spend the day hiking around the sandstone hills. In total there are four different caves and each has their own unique style and feel.  Visit Badami if you crave a truly unique experience that can’t be found anywhere else in India.  

Rent a car from Zoom and arrive at Badami with ease! The best way to get there is via the AH47/NH4. Follow this road until you reach NH218 and take it to Badami Road. From there continue along this road until you reach your destination. The entire trip is roughly 511KM and should take about 8 hours, but if you get lost our GPS can guide you the entire way! Get there faster than with a bus or train and stop at your own convenience.

Cave Temples: If you have ventured all the way from Bangalore to Badami, the cave temples are a must see. There are four main caves; the first is dedicated to Shiva, the second and third are dedicated to Vishnu, and the final cave has Jain depictions. Entrance is Rs. 100 for foreigners and Rs. 5 for Indians.  

The sandstone hills of Badami are absolutely perfect for climbing. Often compared to Hampi, many avid rock-climbers will come to Badami to avoid the crowds and tourists of Hampi.

The best time to visit Badami is from September to February
