Halebeedu or “Old City” is a small
town known for its Hoysala architecture, located in the Hassan District of
Karnataka. Once the capital of the Hoysala Empire in the 12th
century, it has been destroyed several times and is now in very bad condition.
Along with Belur and Shravanabelagola, Halebeedu forms the golden triangle of
Karnataka. If temples and history are your craving, this is one of the best
places to visit in all of Karnataka.

Here are three of the best things to see and do in Halebeedu:
Hoysaleswara Temple: Built all the way back in 1121 C.E., this temple is truly a work of art. Precision sculpting with incredible details, an endless amount of Hindu mythology is depicted all over the walls and ceilings…and no two are the same! However, despite more than 86 years of labor the temple was never finished.
Kedareshwara Temple: Located a stones throw away from Hoysaleswara Temple, this temple is another fantastic example of Hoysala architecture. Built by King Veera Ballala II, this temple was dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is a must see if you are visiting Halebeedu for the weekend.
Belur: Halebeedu is just 16KM away from Belur, a very famous historical town with equally impressive architecture. If you are visiting Halebeedu we recommend visiting Belur as well.
Insiders Tip: Make sure to read up on the history of this small town before visiting!
The best time to visit Halebeedu is between October and April.
