Here are some things to do while exploring Karkala:
Gomateshwara Statue: Easily the main tourist and pilgrimage attraction of Karkala, the Gomateshwara Statue needs to be seen to be believed. This 45-feet tall statue weighs roughly 80 tons and lies on top of a rock that is 300 feet high! All of this and it also overlooks a small little lake, making for a picturesque view!
Padutirupathi Karkala: This famous temple, dating back to the 14th century, still serves as a meeting place for the people of Karkala today. Although not very picturesque, we recommend visiting purely for the historical significance.
Ramasamudra Lake: Visiting this beautiful lake will provide one of the best views of the Western Ghats that anyone could ever ask for. After a long day of temple visits this is the perfect place to relax with friends and family.
Insiders Tip: If you have time, make sure to visit the St. Lawrence Church as well!
The best time to visit Karkala is September to March
