About Kollur

Kollur is a small temple town in the Udupi District of Karnataka, most famous for its Kollur Forest and the Mookambika Temple. This temple is dedicated to the goddess Mookambika for slaying the demon Mookasura. Moreover, immersed in the Western Ghats and beside the Souparnika River, Kollur Forest has some of the most diverse plant life in all of Karnataka. Whether you are looking for a temple retreat or a weekend enveloped in nature, Kollur makes for a scenic weekend that is great for trekking, picnics, or simply relaxing and taking in a breath of fresh air.  

Rent a car from Zoom and arrive at Kollur with ease! The best way to get there is via the AH47/NH4. Follow this road until you reach Bangalore-Honavar Road. From there take Sagara-Hosanagara Road to SH52, and then follow this to Sampekatte-Kollur Road. Continue along this road until you reach your destination. The entire trip is roughly 412KM and should take about 8 hours, but if you get lost our GPS can guide you the entire way! Get there faster than with a bus or train and stop at your own convenience.

Mookambika Temple: This temple is easily the largest tourist attraction in all of Kollur. It is believed to be one of the seven pilgrim centers created by Parashurama, and it is dedicated to the wife of Shiva, Parvathi. It lies on the banks of the Souparnika River, and Kodachadri Peak is visible from outside the temple.  

Kollur Forest:
Lying on the banks of the Souparnika River, this Forest is widely regarded as one of the nicest roads to drive on in all of India. Filled with diverse Flora and Fauna, the road slices through the forest in a way that exemplifies the natural beauty of this place. If you are a car enthusiast, you must drive through this forest at some point in your life.

Arishna Gundi Waterfalls:
Only approachable by trekking, these waterfalls lie deep within the Jungle. Due to the way that the sun shines on these falls, it creates an orange/yellow color, thus it is named “Arishna” which means “turmeric/yellow”.
