Mekedatu, also known as “goats
leap” in Kannada, is a ravine in Karnataka along the Kaveri in Kanakapura
Taluk. It was given this name because the Cauvery river becomes so narrow at
this point it is believed that a goat could jump across. Legend also has it
that the goat that jumped this river was Lord Shiva in disguise, due to the
mysterious goat shaped footprints in the rocks along the bank.
