Moodabidri, is a small town near Mangalore widely known for
its Saavira Kambada Basadi Jain temple, also referred to as the “1000 Pillar
Temple”. It is said that in this legendary temple, no two pillars are alike!
The name is derived from two words in Kannada, Moodu (east) and Bidiru
(bamboo), literally meaning “East Bamboo”. It was given this name due to the
abundance of Bamboo trees in the area when this temple was constructed. Many
visitors to Mangalore will visit this historic temple throughout their journey.
If you are taking a road trip from Bangalore to Mangalore, this temple is a
