Mysore, the third
largest state in Karnataka and the “City of Palaces”, was the capital city of
Mysore Princely Kingdom for almost six centuries from 1399 to 1947. Today, it
is known primarily for its beautiful palaces, serving as a reminder of the past
of this once great, administrative city. If you are looking for a place to
escape the busy city life and immerse yourself in culture, look no further.
Also known as the “cultural capital” of Karnataka, Mysore is particularly famous for its celebrations during the holiday of “Dasara”. The Dasara festivities, celebrated over the course of ten days, include elaborately decorated elephants, camels, and horses and finishes with a street parade with music and decorations. It is located at the Mysore Palace, and attracts visitors from all over the world.
Mysore is also one of the best places in the world to study Yoga and meditation, and is the birthplace of “Mysore Style” yoga. It is a version of Ashtanga Yoga created by Sri K. Patthabhi Jois that is now taught all over the world. If you are looking to take a crash course in Yoga for a weekend, self drive with Zoom and have a spiritual experience that only Mysore can offer!
Rent an SUV if you have a big group and need some extra space, or rent a Figo or Vento and explore the palaces at your own pace.
If you don't own a car or don't want to take your own car, then Zoom has several options for you to consider:

All Zoom cars come with the following: -

order to get the most out of your experience, rent a car from Zoom so that you have
the freedom to explore Mysore as you please. No need to negotiate with rickshaw
drivers or walk for miles, you can drive however and wherever you want.
Here are my three favorite destinations from Mysore:
Mysore Palace: Easily the most famous tourist attraction of Mysore, the Mysore palace is truly an impressive architectural feat. Home to the former royal family of Mysore, it was first built in the 14th century, but has been demolished and reconstructed several times. It is also one of the most famous tourist attractions in India after the Taj Mahal with more than 2.7 million visitors. Self drive and visit the temple at night to see it in a whole new light!
Lalitha Mahal: The second largest palace in Mysore, it is located in the east of the city right near Chamundi Hills. It was built in 1921 for the exclusive stay of the Viceroy of India. It was built in the Italian Palazzo style with twin ionic columns and domes, and is pure white in color. It also has fantastic gardens and a beautiful terrace to enjoy.
Chamundi Hills: Among the eight most sacred hills of South India, Chamundi Hills is a must see if you love sunsets and panoramic views. However, be prepared to walk up over 1,000 steps if you want to get to the top! Once atop this massive hill, one can see the entire city of Mysore, including the Mysore Palace, Karanji and Kukkarhalli lakes. The easiest way to get there is by car, where you can drive right up to the main temple and parking is free.
Insiders Tip: Make sure you try one of the famous Mysore Masala Dosas.
The best time for visiting Mysore is ANYTIME! Visit between the months of September and October if you want to visit for Dasara.
