The Varahi River, also known as the Halady River, is a
famous river and tourist destination in Karnataka, due to the construction of
the Varahi Dam. The river begins in the Western Ghats and flows into the
Arabian Sea after merging with the Souparnika, Kedaka, Chakra, and Kubja
Rivers. The Varahi Dam is the site of an underground hydroelectric plant, the
first of its kind constructed by the KPCL. The Varahi River is best visited as
a part of a larger road trip, but if passing through this area we highly
recommend checking it out for yourselves.
Rent a car from Zoom and arrive at the Varahi Dam with ease! The best way to get there is via the AH47/NH4. Follow this road until you reach Bangalore-Honavar Road. From there take the Solapur-Mangalore Highway to Azad road in Thirthahalli. Lastly, take Durga Road and SH52 to Thombattu Road until and then continue along this road until you reach your destination. The entire trip is roughly 413KM and should take about 8 hours, but if you get lost our GPS can guide you the entire way! Get there faster than with a bus or train and stop at your own convenience.
