Head to Ratnagiri
if you want your next holiday to have it all — beaches, forests, hills and
waterfalls interspersed with a more than wholesome dose of history, adventure
and mouth-watering food. Located amidst the Sahayadri Ranges and surrounded by

you in case you are living in or are visiting Maharashtra. With so much to
offer, Ratnagiri is one of the more popular tourist destinations in Maharashtra,
but still manages to exude quietness and serenity, and is a definitely great
weekend escape from the hustle and bustle of Pune and Mumbai.
Since there are no direct trains to Ratnagiri from Pune, the best way to get there is by road. While there are all kinds of buses running the stipulated 305 km distance from Ratnagiri to Pune, they take almost twice the amount of time that it would take in a self-driven car. The trip will take you just about 5 hours of road time as compared to 8 hours in a bus. On top of that, taking a self-driven car would also give you the freedom to explore the many wonders of Ratnagiri as and when you please.
In order to avoid the hassle of walking for kilometers or haggling with rickshaw drivers, rent a Zoom car instead. You can be your own master while you are in Ratnagiri, with the flexibility to fill up your days in the town with as little or as much activity as you please.

on three sides and located atop a cliff, this horse shoe shaped structure will

The Beaches: While the crowded Mandavi beach or the relatively serene Ratnagiri beach is the one that local rickshaw and taxi drivers will take you to, if you have the flexibility of having a self-driven car, you can and should drive yourself to one of the many tourist free, serene beaches that dot the coastline of Ratnagiri. You also have the liberty of parking your car and taking small treks to discover the hidden waterfalls, streams, mangroves and beaches of this multifaceted town.
Insider’s Tip: If you drive along the road next to the shore, you will find small secluded stretches of the beach that you can hang out on.
The best time to spend a fulfilling holiday is from October to March, as the weather is pleasant and suitable for sightseeing.
